Hill Country Paradise - Georgetown

The Guadalupe river runs from Kerr county into San Antonio Bay at the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the larger towns it runs thru are Kerrville, New Braunfels, Seguin, Gonzales, Cuero and Victoria. Multiple dams along the way create several lakes to serve different communities for water and recreation. The biggest dam is located in Canyon Lake, just NorthWest of New Braunfels.

Guadalupe River - Horseshoe BendThe higher portion of this Hill Country river starts with a smaller, faster stream of limestone banks with Ash, Oak, Pecan and Cypress trees lining it's edges. The North Fork Guadalupe and the South Fork Guadalupe come together to form this beautiful Hill Country river.

The Guadalupe River is one of the finest rivers in Texas. It is renowned for tubing, rafting, canoeing, fishing, swimming, and many other great activities for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. It is probably most well known by young and old alike as a tubing river, where an inner tube is used to simply float along with the current during the spring and summer months. From Hunt, Ingram and Kerrville the river winds lazily along thru Center Point, Comfort, Boerne and into the Guadalupe State Park. The Guadalupe State Park is probably one of the more popular tubing or toobing areas of the river. Then into the US Army Corps of Engineers Canyon Lake, a large 8000 acre lake finished in 1964.

From the Canyon Lake dam the river is released east, then back west at the Horse Shoe before proceeding down to New Braunfels and then leaving the Hill Country on it's journey to the Gulf. This area is heavily used for recreation, especially for tubing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking. Seasonal, fast flowing, very cold water also make it ideal for the fishing, especially trout fly fishing along it's winding course along River Road into New Braunfels. The Guadalupe is listed in the top 100 trout streams in the USA. It is the southern most Trout Fishery in the United Sates, being supervised by the Texas Parks and Wildlife, Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority and WORD (Water Oriented recreation District) and others. Stocked with Rainbow trout, Brown trout, Bass and Perch on a regular schedule, it is a Texas fishermans haven. This area of the Guadalupe is considered one of the most beautiful and scenic parts of the river and perhaps in all of Texas.
